The Arts Society

As a leading global arts education charity based in the U.K., The Arts Society (TAS) made it a strategic ambition to expand their digital offerings. When it became clear that their existing data and application landscape would not support this ambition, they approached Ergon as a trusted partner on the path towards a successful digital transformation.

The Arts Society (TAS) is a leading arts education charity based in the U.K. with a global network of local societies, connecting over 90,000 members through a shared curiosity for the arts and preservation of artistic heritage. During the pandemic in 2021, they formulated a new strategy to expand their offerings in the digital world while maintaining their commitment to high-quality arts education in local venues. Yet it became clear that the existing digital landscape and operation model would not support this ambition in the long run. To support and guide them through the digital transformation, The Arts Society turned to Ergon.

Towards a digital transformation roadmap

The Arts Society tasked Ergon with improving the existing digital operations and discovering possible shortcomings within the current IT landscape. To that end, they required a comprehensive enterprise architecture analysis, focusing on improvements related to data, applications and user experience. In addition, a three-year roadmap detailing this digital transformation were to be created.

Multi-layered enterprise architecture

In close collaboration with The Arts Society, a team of consulting, security and UX experts from Ergon created a vision for a future-focused enterprise architecture and established guiding principles. The team conducted a thorough analysis based on the TOGAF® architecture development methodology (ADM), mapping the current state of the enterprise architecture against the envisioned target state and identifying gaps and key areas for improvement. The analysis looked at all the different layers of the enterprise architecture, from business processes to the data, application and technology landscape, as well as the overarching end-user experience.

“Ergon has added so much value and structure to our thinking. Their committed experts recognized the importance of looking at all layers of our enterprise architecture and guided us through the process of creating a new vision for our digital future.”

Feasibility, practicability and value

Based on this analysis, the Ergon team formulated strategic actions and carefully evaluated them regarding feasibility, practicability and capacity to address the primary challenges identified. To prioritize those actions, they developed a detailed three-year roadmap featuring hands-on strategic measures to drive the company’s digital transformation. With the proposed roadmap, The Arts Society can confront the most pressing digital challenges head-on, creating full transparency over their digital infrastructure. The efforts should streamline operations, enhance the overall user experience, and foster data-driven decision-making.

A pragmatic yet holistic approach

Thanks to the analysis and the roadmap proposed by Ergon, The Arts Society is now well-positioned to become a more digitally native business. Integral to this process were the structured methodology of TOGAF® and the combined consulting, UX, and security expertise from the team at Ergon. Together, they were able to assess the various layers of the architecture and ensure a pragmatic approach. The result is an integrated transformation strategy that will soon become reality.
